Butterflies (Reception W)

Welcome to Butterflies class page,

This half term we are learning about festivals of light and colour.  We have started with Bonfire Night and Diwali and towards of the end of the term will be learning all about Christmas.  To link to our work on colour, we will also be exploring the book ‘Elmer’.

Thank you to all the parents who attended our ‘Parents Maths and English Information Evening’.  It was great to see so many of you there and there was a brilliant atmosphere.  For those who could not attend, support packs with various resources have been sent home, however we have also attached a copy of the Powerpoint to this class page.

Now that we have taught all phase 2 sounds, we will be focusing on our blending skills to help us read.  Sound folders are sent home on Fridays and are expected back the following Wednesday.  The aim of the sound folders is to inform you as parents about the phonics focus for the week and to allow children to consolidate this at home.  We have also started ‘Doodle Time’ whereby we focus on how to form a different letter every day.  When your child is writing at home, please encourage them to use cursive writing as we do in school.

PE days continue to be Tuesdays however we do sometimes do additional PE on other days.  Therefore, please ensure that PE kits are in school all week.  We also suggest bringing a warmer tracksuit now that it is colder.  Most of the PE sessions are indoors but occasionally they will be outside, even in the winter.

It is good to see more of the children are now eating the fruit provided by the school for their midmorning snack.  If your child is bringing in their own snack, please ensure that it is either fruit or vegetables.  We do have children with severe allergies both within our class and across the school therefore there must be NO NUTS in any of the children’s snacks or packed lunches.  Please also see the attached allergy poster for Butterflies.

We are very excited to announce that we will be doing a Christmas Play on Wednesday 12th and Friday 14th December at 9:30am.  The children will all be given parts and their lines will be sent home for them to practise.  A separate letter will be sent to parents about how to book tickets.

Please remember that we are always happy to answer any questions you may have with regards to your child’s school life.
