Berkshire Oracy Project - Foxes Class

Year 2 Foxes Class are lucky to have been invited to take part in a new, exciting pan-Berkshire Oracy project with the aim of developing Speaking & Listening skills in our learning. Over the past half-term, we have been busy applying this to our Minibeast learning in Science. We researched Amphibians, finding out about their habitats, diets and lifecycles whilst also practicing our speaking and listening skills. This resulted in us writing a Podcast script about Frogs and recording these in pairs using the iPads, demonstrating our new knowledge of what makes a good Podcast. These have been published on Seesaw for the whole community to listen and enjoy.

To access your child's Podcast on Seesaw, follow these steps:

Enter the password: wren

You can also scan this QR code to use with the Seesaw App available on your devices App Store:

Your child’s work will have been ‘tagged’ with theirs and their partners’ names. Please note, the system is currently ‘double-tagging’ names! Therefore a little search may be required whilst we navigate this exciting new technology!

Thank you for your support in sharing in our children’s success.

Welcome back, Foxes!

I hope you all had a relaxing half-term week and are rested and ready to learn! This half-term our topic is: The Queen. We will be researching the Royal Family, their homes, family tree and understanding more about Queen Elizabeth II’s life and role. Our writing will have lots of variation, with fictional stories such as The Queens Knickers and George and the Dragon informing news reports, shape knowledge helping us to write poetry, and our research helping us to produce factual writing about The Queen. In Maths, our focus will move to fractions, whilst still continuing to count and share in groups to help our times tables and division skills respectively. In RE we will answer questions such as: ‘How should the church celebrate Easter?’.

On this page you will find:

   - The home learning grid for Spring 2 half-term

   - New spellings ready for the first week

   - Topic grid for ‘The Queen’

Important information:

   - PE days – Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child’s PE kit is in school on a Monday morning. Kits will come home on Friday.

   - Home Folders – Will go home and need to come back into school every day.

   - Home Learning to be in by Tuesday each week. Home learning activities will be part of the home learning pack or will be sent home on a Friday.

   - Spelling books should come into school ready for Friday spelling tests.

February Half-term Reading and Home Learning

I hope you have a wonderful, well-earned half-term break!

Children will today be coming home with a very small reading and answer sheet to complete over the half-term break, as well as a big 'holiday word mat' sheet. We will write a short recount of our half-term break when we return, so this is a good daily exercise for 2 minutes to jot down any words which will help them on their first day back to retell what they have been up to!

I have also sent out the new Home Learning grids and Spellings which are digitally attached below.

Stay safe, have fun and I will see you all on the 25th!

Mr. R.
