Foxes (Year 2 W)

04.06.2019

Welcome back, Foxes!

I hope you all had a fantastic break and are ready to learn! This half-term our topic is Animal Kingdom. We will be comparing geographical similarities and differences between the UK Mexico and developing our skills by using maps and an Atlas. We will also develop our scientific skills as we identify and classify animals. In ICT, we will be learning to programme alongside researching our topic. Our Art projects will focus on the work of artists such as Henri Rousseau and Andy Goldsworthy, who took inspiration from landscapes and nature. In English, we will be creating Kennnings in Poetry and building on our persuasive writing skills as we encourage people to save a wonderful Mammal! In Maths, our focus will be on measure, such as Mass, Capacity and Temperature alongside Position and Direction. In RE we will explore the question: ‘How should you spend the weekend?’ as we investigate Shabbat.

On this page you will find:

Home Learning 17th May 2019 - Reading - Mammals

A Mammals reading home learning sheet will be coming home today (Friday) as home learning and is attached below as a file.

As it is chunkier than usual home learning, I am happy for this to replace any reading of home readers over the weekend.

Home Learning 3rd May 2019 - Maths Reasoning

A Maths Reasoning practice paper will be coming home today as home learning and is attached below as a file. This is really good practice for all Foxes so I would urge them to have a go.

As it is chunkier than usual home learning, I am happy for this to come back into school completed by Thursday 9th May.

Berkshire Oracy Project - Foxes Class

Year 2 Foxes Class are lucky to have been invited to take part in a new, exciting pan-Berkshire Oracy project with the aim of developing Speaking & Listening skills in our learning. Over the past half-term, we have been busy applying this to our Minibeast learning in Science. We researched Amphibians, finding out about their habitats, diets and lifecycles whilst also practicing our speaking and listening skills. This resulted in us writing a Podcast script about Frogs and recording these in pairs using the iPads, demonstrating our new knowledge of what makes a good Podcast. These have been published on Seesaw for the whole community to listen and enjoy.

To access your child's Podcast on Seesaw, follow these steps:

Visit: https://blog.seesaw.me/foxespodcasts

Enter the password: wren

You can also scan this QR code to use with the Seesaw App available on your devices App Store:

Your child’s work will have been ‘tagged’ with theirs and their partners’ names. Please note, the system is currently ‘double-tagging’ names! Therefore a little search may be required whilst we navigate this exciting new technology!

Thank you for your support in sharing in our children’s success.

Mr Riordan
