Every Autumn we usually invite parents into school to share with you learning strategies and expectations to support your child with learning in Nursery. This year we have had to record these presentations for you to view at your leisure in the comfort of your own home. Please click on the link below to view the presentation.
Welcome to the Woodhurst Nursery class page,
New parents September 2020, please find a link to a short video clip to share with your child about starting Nursery.
Dear Parents and carers
Welcome to Warfield Nursery and our website.
Woodhurst Nursery staff are Miss E Dick Class Teacher, Mrs S Crispin Nursery Assistant, Mrs S Main Nursery Assistant, Miss C Thomas Nursery Apprentice and Mrs S Thompson SEN Nursery Assistant & Lunch Cover.
On our website you will find key information about our learning for this term and other useful information. As we are still working under Government guidelines due to the COVID 19 pandemic we are sorry but parents are limited within the Nursery building. We ask you to say goodbye your child at the door and staff will support your child putting things on their peg. This is an essential independent skill for your child, it is just happening much earlier than we would like. As children enter Nursery they will wash their hands and at regular points during the day. We do ask if you can limit the things children bring. They may leave their bag with “spare clothes” on their own peg for the week. Please write your child’s name on the labels on all children’s clothing especially coats and jumpers. Please provide a full change of clothes in your child's bag.
All children should have a named drinks bottle and named lunch box. We politely ask that no nuts or eggs are included in their lunch boxes due to allergies.
As we enter the Summer Term hopefully the weather will be getting brighter and warmer please can you send your child in with a named sunhat. We also ask if you can apply sun cream to your child before their session starts. We will only apply Nivea Factor 50 to our full day children in line with school policy. Please let us know if you do not want us to apply sun cream or if your child has allergies to Nivea.
Please continue to send your child with a waterproof coat and a pair of wellington boots as outside learning is an important part of our curriculum. Thank you.
Our Learning this half term is Growing. We will start this topic with asking the children to bring in a photograph of them as a baby. We will then talk to the children about how we have changed since birth and how we have grown. We shall then look at the Traditional tale of Jack & the Beanstalk and growing our own beanstalks. During the first two weeks we shall also be watching our eggs hatch and some baby chicks being born. Again we shall look at how they change as they grow.
Our next focus book will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we shall spend time looking at the lifecycle of a caterpillar and how they turn into a butterfly. The children will be painting their own symmetrical butterfly for our butterfly garden within Nursery. We shall then look at the story of The Frog Prince and the lifecycle of frogs. We are hoping to have some frogspawn and watch them change into tadpoles and then hopefully a frog.
We have attached documents to give you more details about what your child will be learning with us at Nursery and how you can support your child at home. We will also be spending time settling new children this term as it is a very new experience for them and many children have not been away from parents before.
As we are a school Nursery we start the children learning phonics, Phase 1 and then progressing to Phase 2. We also introduce Early Number, shape and counting to the children. Please do ask if you have any questions about these two important areas and how you can support at home. Please see the attached Topic Plan and Home learning documents for more ideas of how you can support your child's learning.
We are looking forward to getting to know your children and our new families this term. If you have any queries / questions, please do not hesitate to ask one of the Nursery team and we will try our best to answer them for you.
Miss Elaine Dick
