Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to Warfield Nursery and our website.

Woodhurst Nursery staff are Miss E Dick Class Teacher, Mrs S Crispin Nursery Assistant, Mrs S Main Nursery Assistant, Miss C Thomas Nursery Apprentice and Mrs S Thompson  Lunch Cover.

On our website you will find key information about our learning for this term and other useful information. We ask you to say goodbye your child at the door and staff will support your child putting things on their peg. As children enter Nursery they will wash their hands and at regular points during the day. They may leave their bag with “spare clothes” on their own peg for the week. Please write your child’s name on the labels on all children’s clothing especially coats and jumpers. Please provide a full change of clothes in your child's bag.

All children should have a named drinks bottle and named lunch box. We politely ask that no nuts or eggs are included in their lunch boxes due to allergies.

As we enter the Summer Term hopefully the weather will be getting brighter and warmer please can you send your child in with a named sunhat. We also ask if you can apply sun cream to your child before their session starts. We will only apply Nivea Factor 50 to our full day children in line with school policy. Please let us know through the Operoo system if you do not want us to apply sun cream or if your child has allergies to Nivea. You may provide an alternative sun cream but we would need written permission on email or letter to confirm this for our records.

Please continue to send your child with a waterproof coat and a pair of wellington boots as outside learning is an important part of our curriculum. Thank you.

Our Learning this half term is Under The Sea. We will start this topic talking about the seaside and if the children have been to the beach before. This may be either in this country or abroad. What are their experiences of the seaside? What did they see, hear, smell when they were there?  We shall be reading stories such as Lucy & Tom at the Seaside, Sharing a Shell, Tiddler and The Rainbow Fish. We will also look at Information books about the different animals that live under the sea.

Our next focus book will be the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch and we shall spend time looking at the different foods Mr Grinling eats at his picnic and thinking about making a pulley for our picnic basket to travel down. We shall be using our Maths knowledge to see if the children can work out how many plates, knives & forks we need for our picnic and writing the different numbers. We shall also look at what happens to a number if we add one more person or take one away. We shall be learning about creating a repeating pattern with different shells and also seeing if we can continue a repeating pattern or spot an error in a repeating pattern.

Our final two weeks of term we will be thinking about Pirates and Mermaids. We shall learn about Treasure Maps and hunting for treasure, making our own pirate boats, pirate hats and cutlass’. This is always a lovely topic to end the term with and the children love it.

Towards the end of this Summer Term we will also be talking about transition if your child is leaving Nursery and starting Reception class at school. We role play schools and talk to the children about their new experiences and their new learning and the new friends that they will make. We do encourage you to talk about the transition to school at home so the children can be fully prepared for the next stage of their Learning Journey.

As we are a school Nursery we start the children learning phonics, Phase 1 and then progressing to Phase 2. We also introduce Early Number, shape and counting to the children. Please do ask if you have any questions about these two important areas and how you can support at home. Please see the attached Topic Plan and Home learning documents for more ideas of how you can support your child's learning.

We are looking forward to getting to know your children and our new families this term. If you have any queries / questions, please do not hesitate to ask one of the Nursery team and we will try our best to answer them for you.
